Since its formation in 1865, the Lima Fire Department has provided basic fire fighting and safety services. Changes in technology and fire fighting personnel have left a rich heritage. To capture and preserve the history of the department and the people who made it possible, we have built the Lima FireFighters Memorial Museum.

The museum, built in Lincoln Park, will display a horse drawn steam pumper from the late 1800s and a 1929 Ahrens-Fox fire engine. A memorial dedicated to those who died in the line of duty features the names of the department's fallen heroes. Another section pays tribute to the city's finest, naming past and present fire fighters.
In September 1996, plans were unveiled on the site where the museum would be built - adjacent to Fire Station #5. Lincoln Park already houses the Allen County Historical Society's Train Exhibit and the completion of the Lima FireFighters Memorial Museum has added to the living history of the park.
Approximately 700 fire fighters have served the Lima Fire Department since 1865. An honor walk leading to the museum is paved with bricks that acknowledge each of the fire fighters. Along with the display of the fire fighting equipment in the museum, this honor walk will perpetuate the commitment the fire fighters demonstrated during their years of service to the community. To help make the Lima FireFighters Memorial Museum a reality, almost $250,000 was raised and the ground breaking ceremony was held on Memorial Day 1997, with dedication following on Memorial Day 1999. All Contributions to this project are tax deductible and will be processed through the Lima Community Foundation. This arrangement allows for complete accountability of all funds raised. All funds needed to complete this project are expected to be raised through this capital campaign. Ongoing operating expenses will be sustained by an annual special event, and ongoing contributions. The Lima FireFighters Memorial Museum Committee wishes to thank all past and present contributors to this worthwhile endeavor. This museum will pay tribute to the heroism of all who have served the Lima Fire Department.
